At the recent Osaka-Kansai Expo, Naver Cloud introduced its AI-powered elder care technology aimed at addressing the challenges of Japan’s rapidly aging society. The event, held in Osaka from July 9 to 11, featured the company’s Clova CareCall service—a conversational AI that checks in on elderly individuals and detects potential emergencies—as well as its 3D digital twin technology for urban monitoring.
Clova CareCall engages in natural, emotionally intelligent conversations with elderly users and automatically alerts hospitals or local authorities if it detects signs of distress or abnormal behavior during a call. The service is currently being deployed in Izumo City, a city with one of the highest elderly populations in Japan. In March, Clova CareCall was the first non-Japanese service to make it to the finals of DigiDenkoshien, a national competition organized by Japan’s Cabinet Secretariat, where it finished fifth—an official recognition of its technological quality.
Naver Cloud also demonstrated its digital twin platform, which digitally replicates entire urban areas in real time. The technology allows for the tracking of elderly residents’ movements and can quickly notify monitoring centers in the event of unusual activity. The platform is positioned as a comprehensive, AI-powered infrastructure for urban welfare, integrating services across healthcare, safety, and community support.
“Advanced technologies like AI and digital twins are no longer just innovations—they are becoming vital social infrastructure in aging societies,” said Naver Cloud CEO Youwon Kim. “Starting with Izumo, we aim to expand the practical benefits of these solutions to local communities and into broader sectors.”
Following the expo, Naver Cloud announced plans to expand its elder care services to small and mid-sized Japanese cities with increasing welfare needs.
